What’s the inspiration behind the 1on1 clinics?
Experience has taught me that people care about doing good work. We want to make a difference. We want our contribution to be meaningful and valuable. To do this we need time. Time to focus, time to recharge, time for breakthroughs, time for relationships. However, who taught us how to find this time? When it comes to planning our time effectively many of us are self taught. Our effort level is high but our output is inefficient. We have a skills gap that makes it much harder to bring all our other excellent skills to life.
Managing our time is much harder today than it was in the past. Studies show the average brain is exposed to 74 GB of info each day (equivalent to 16 films). In the not so distant past that’s as much information as an educated person would consume in a lifetime! How does this impact the human brain? For many of us it makes it harder to concentrate, recover from stress, make progress and give quality attention to the people we care about.
A clear plan is how we change our lives for the better. To pass a driving test you have to take a theory test first. We have to learn the rules of the road before we can do the practical. It seems to me that our careers are like drivers who spent hours on the theory and passed with flying colours. However, when it came to the practical we just had to make it up as we go along. How stressful would you feel driving on a motorway without any help?
Who will benefit;
Anyone who wants to make progress with their most important (Deep) work
Anyone who wants to make a change in their life but finds it hard to find the time
Anyone who finds it difficult to give themselves permission to take the recovery time they need
Anyone who struggles to make quality time for the people they care about most
Who won’t benefit;
Anyone who wants a quick fix without putting in any effort
You are a good person, doing your best. That’s enough.
By managing my time more effectively and making progress with my Deep Work I find it easier to make time for the people who matter most to me - like my Dad, niece and nephew below.
